How to Take Bookings Without Living in Your DMs

You know the thread. "How much for knotless?" "Waist length." "Do you do hair or do I bring my own?" "What about Saturday?" Fifty times a week, mostly in the evening, mostly while you are trying to eat. There is a way out, and it does not mean losing the personal touch.

The five questions

Almost every enquiry you receive is some combination of the same five things: what does it cost, how long does it take, what are my options, when are you free, and how do I secure it. You answer them so often you could do it in your sleep, and most nights you nearly are.

The problem is not that clients ask. It is that answering happens one at a time, in real time, forever. Every hour of that is an hour you are not braiding, not resting, and not with your family.

Why a link beats a conversation

A booking link answers all five questions at once, for everyone, at three in the morning if that is when she is scrolling. She sees the price for the length and size she wants, sees how long it takes, sees which days you genuinely have free, pays her deposit and books.

The part people underestimate: this converts better than messaging. Every reply she waits for is a chance to go cold or book someone who answered faster. Removing the wait removes the leak.

But I do not want to feel impersonal

This is the objection worth taking seriously, because relationships genuinely are the business in our industry. Here is the reframe: the DMs are not where the relationship lives. The relationship lives in the chair, over four hours, talking. Quoting prices at midnight is not connection, it is admin wearing connection's clothes.

Take the admin out and you have more of yourself left for the part that actually matters.

What your booking page needs to cover

For this to work, the page has to handle the way our services are actually priced. A generic booking form with one price per service will send people straight back to your DMs.

  • Length options. Shoulder, bra strap, waist, and what each costs.
  • Size options. Jumbo through to micro, with the time and price adjusting, because a micro set is a different day's work.
  • Hair provided or bring your own. Priced clearly either way.
  • True durations. So a six hour style is only offered when you actually have six hours.
  • Add-ons. Take-down, wash, treatment, priced properly rather than squeezed in as favours.
  • Your terms. Deposit, notice period, late policy, how to arrive.

Get those right and the page answers everything the thread used to.

Where to put it

Your Instagram bio, first and foremost, because that is where most of our clients find us. Then your Google Business Profile, which is where people search when they do not already know your name. Then anywhere you are mentioned: WhatsApp status, TikTok, your website if you have one.

When someone does message asking for prices, reply warmly and send the link. Within a few weeks most regulars will have learned the new way, and new clients will only ever know it.

What changes after a fortnight

Two things, usually. Your evenings come back, which you will notice immediately. And your bookings become more predictable, because deposits mean the diary reflects reality rather than intentions.

The third thing takes a little longer to see: you stop losing the enquiries that used to arrive while you were mid-braid and go cold before you could answer. Those were never visible as lost bookings. They just quietly were.

Getting set up

You do not have to build any of this. Melan Kair is set up for you: we take your services, your prices, your options and your policies and put them into a booking page ready to share, usually live within a week. Read more about protecting long appointments with deposits, which is the other half of the same problem.

FAQ

Quick answers.

How do I stop clients messaging me for prices? +

Publish a booking link that answers the common questions: price by length and size, how long the style takes, your real availability and your deposit terms. Put it in your Instagram bio and Google profile, and reply to enquiries with the link.

Will using a booking link feel impersonal? +

The relationship in this industry is built in the chair, not in a quote thread at midnight. Taking the admin out of your messages usually leaves more of you for the part clients actually value.

What does my booking page need to include? +

Length and size options with their own prices, hair provided or bring your own, true durations, add-ons like take-downs, and your deposit and late policy.

Where should I share my booking link? +

Instagram bio first, then your Google Business Profile, then anywhere else you appear. Those two cover the people who already follow you and the people searching for someone near them.
